History of Pilton Academicals Football Club

Pilton Academicals Football Club, also known as Pilton Accies or Pilton AFC. Was formed by The founding members, Steve Coleman, Richard Marsh, Dave Lee and Alan Mason who were all teachers from Pilton Community College, at the start of the 1995/96 season and joined the North Devon Football League and played at Rock Park, Barnstaple.

Many of them which have played amateur football for over 30 years. Pilton Accies began their first season using a hand me down blue kit.  In there first kit they bought together as a new founding Accies, saw them in a red and black stripped football kit. In there first ever game as Pilton AFC they played against Shebbear at Home which they lost 3 - 2. The start of the 2003/04 season saw the club enter a second team to the North Devon Football League which Mark Gammon became the manager. Winners medals did not start appearing until 2010/11 season when Pilton won there first Senior Division Cup, sadly the second team had to fold in the season of 2012/13. Which saw the Accies enter a single team into the Senior Division again due to being unable to obtain a new pitch to play the Premier Division.

The 2013/14 season started in the Intermediate 1 Division due to relegation, however has seen the team complete the criteria to be a FA Charter Standard club.

With the help Dawn Fewins of the Corner house, Barnstaple. Pilton Academicals Football Club were able to secure TRIBUTE as one of there biggest new sponsor in 2014/15. This also sparked the kick start of there first football mobile app, which was able to be purchased on Google play and iTunes, now since discontinued.

Pilton Accies have won the North Devon Area final and the Arlington Cup 2014/15 season and found promotion to the Senior Division securing runners up. With nothing to loose or gain in 2016/17. Pilton Academicals found to gain the ultimate prize in 2017/18 with the winning of the North Devon Senior Division Cup.

A new home pitch, thanks to Barnstaple Town FC. A new revamped club name change to Barnstaple Town Reserves & Pilton Academicals Football Club and a new extra sponsor Top Town Printers Accies will play in the Premier Division in 2018/19 season.

The Crest

The crest was chosen by the founding members as it was the school emblem at the time.

The castle represents the iconic Norman castle which partly still lays at the top of castle mound in Barnstaple.

The bird which is represented as a swan is to denote the association of the school  being a Christian lead school.

“Pursue Excellence” was the school motto of Barnstaple Boys Secondary School from 1947 until its closure in 1972.
